What is Rheumatoid Arthritis?

According to modern medicine, Rheumatoid Arthritis is an autoimmune disease. In short, our immunity attacks our own body cells. In Rheumatoid Arthritis, our immunity attacks on our joint rings, this results into pain, stiffness and inflammation of our joints.

As per the Ayurvedic texts, Amavata occurs due to excessive deposition of Ama (sticky, undigested resin like substance) in the body. Ama generates because of weak digestive system & improper diet and lifestyle habits. This Ama causes inflammation, pain and stiffness of joints.

How Rheumatoid Arthritis is diagnosed?

There are many types of Arthritis. As far as rheumatoid arthritis is concerned, there are certain laboratory tests which can help in diagnosis. In Rheumatoid Arthritis condition, tests like ESR, Anti CCP, RA factor shows higher levels. This may help in diagnosis.

Is Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) curable?

As far as modern medicines are concerned, RA is such a disease which can be controlled, but not cured by medicines. Your rheumatologist may prescribe compounds called as DMARDs (Disease modifying antirheumatic drugs) such as methotrexate, hydroxycholorquine, sulfasalazine, leflunomide, cyclophosphamide and azathioprine. Apart from that steroids such as prednisolone, and NSAIDs (Painkillers) are also prescribed.

A point to be noted is, in most cases the above said drugs can only control the disease. For modern medicine, Rheumatoid Arthritis is not curable.  Whereas, Ayurveda provides complete management of RA. According to Ayurveda, Rheumatoid Arthritis is curable.
