As per the classics ‘Ojas’ is the essence of all the Dhatus. It resides in the heart (Hridaya) at it is present throughout the body. If Ojas is there, one is alive. If Ojas is destroyed, one is no more. Ojas is the subtle essence that is responsible for life, radiant health, strong immunity, vigor, longevity and overall well being of an individual. The subtle essence called ojas that is extracted from the proper digestion and efficient metabolism of food nourishes the bodily tissues of blood, plasma and lymph, muscle, fat, bones, bone marrow, semen and ojas. Ojas also forms the basic material of the five sense organs, ligaments and lubricating fluids. Ojas is described to have the color of ghee, the taste of honey, the smell of fried paddy/rice grain. There are two types of Ojas, Para and Apara.

Ojas can be diminished or weakened by many factors which primarily include diet, lifestyle and mental status. Anything which does not suit you physically, mentally, psychologically or spiritually can lead to weakening of Ojas.
How to Protect and increase Ojas:
First and foremost rule… Be happy and do things which makes you and others happy. Eat Good food, easy to digest food. Make your metabolism intact. Eat in time, in moderate quantity with pleasant mind. Have a regular healthy lifestyle. Leave stress, or atleast have less amount of stress. Do meditation, Yoga and Pranayama. Be active spiritually. Do regular prayer, chanting, let the positive thoughts, positive energy enter into your body and mind. Have some support from Rasayana Ayurveda medicines which nourishes the body and makes it balanced. Thus, increases the ojas.
